In one sentence

The two branches left over in each sixty-step cycle, read as a place where things do not stick.

How it is used

A star or a pillar sitting in that space reads as present but not quite landing: the thing is there, it simply does not hold the way the rest of the chart would suggest. Korean practice usually turns it toward the non-material, study, art, faith, work not measured by what you keep, rather than toward loss. It is also one of the most variably applied ideas in the system, counted from the day pillar by some readers and from the year by others, so a single mention of it deserves a light touch.
