In one sentence
The element a reader picks as the one that helps a chart most.
How it is used
Once a reader has judged the Day Master strong or weak, the favourable element is whatever balances it, and most of the advice in a traditional reading flows from that single pick. There is no agreed method: schools choose it by season, by balance, by the controlling relationships or by the flow of the chart, and they land on different answers for the same birth. We say so rather than presenting one choice as the answer, and we do not sell objects or rituals attached to it.
