How it is used
Where the cycles start and which way they run is calculated from your month pillar and the polarity setting, which is the only reason a reading asks for that setting at all. A cycle does not replace your chart; it shows which parts of it get emphasised for a while, so a chart that was short of an element can read differently when a cycle supplies it. Reading a decade as simply good or bad flattens what it actually describes, which is a change of emphasis.
